Cities are a major area of economic support for agricultural products. The Kentucky Proud® Certified Cities program emphasizes how every step of commodities reaching consumers is crucial to supporting local supply and demand. The program provides an opportunity to highlight this critical connection and empower local governments to proactively enhance agricultural opportunities.
Every city has its own story, its own businesses, and its own connection to agriculture. The Kentucky Proud® Certified Cities program offers three levels of certification – Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Kentucky Proud® and KLC assess the cities’ efforts across several areas including integration through school education programs and nutrition curricula, businesses, hospitals, community events and outreach, and local agricultural-focused zoning practices amongst others. The goal is to find practical ways for Kentucky cities to build stronger relationships with Kentucky farmers, producers, and agricultural businesses.
Kentucky agriculture doesn’t stop at the farm gate. It reaches our restaurants, schools, businesses, hospitals, neighborhoods and community events. The Kentucky Proud® Certified Cities program helps make those connections more visible — and gives cities a way to celebrate the role agriculture plays in their local economy and everyday life.
